Can you believe Christmas is just five days away? The closer it gets to Christmas the cheesier my Christmas cheer gets. And Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without the 12 days of Diabetic Christmas song! You remember that age old song… on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… just replace my true love with diabetes, and all those winter fowl and gifts with diabetic supplies and you’ve got yourself a diabetic Christmas song!
Here is my rendition of the 12 Days of Diabetic Christmas. Don’t worry, I condensed it because this song can get annoying real quick.
Holiday Bonus! At the bottom of this post I linked my low carb paleo brownie recipe and a little self love guide on how to beat a funk after the holidays.
12 Days of Diabetic Christmas
On the twelfth day of Christmas diabetes gave to me…
Twelve Starburst Candies
Eleven Loose Test Strips
Ten extra units
Nine mini pep talks
Eight alarm reminders
Seven carbs a counting
Six Unused Lancets
Fiveeeeeee Ketone Strips
Four Strange Looks
Two Site Changes
and an A1C below 7.0
Between my husband & I’s office parties and family parties this week/weekend there is going to be a lot of difficult food to bolus for – especially since I didn’t make it. I like to take the guessing game out for at least 1-2 dishes by bringing a food item(s) that I have mastered a bolus for. One of those being my delicious, chocolatey, low carb Paleo Keto Avocado Brownies. If you’ve never had avocado brownies before then these are the ones to try. Some recipes have a strong avocado taste, but these ones don’t – you can’t even detect a hint of avocado. And ladies, they are husband approved too!
And most importantly, don’t forget to take care of yourself this holiday season. After months of late nights, stress, and crazy blood sugars, a diabetic (or anyone with an autoimmune disease) is more prone to burnout. Follow my guide on how to get out of (and stay out of) a funk after the holidays.
