‘Twas three days before Christmas and all through the house, Not a beta cell was stirring, not even an ounce. – T1D
Woah guys, we are three days away from the most magical day of the year! I wanted to drop in and say Hello, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa because it may be a bit spotty over here on T1D Living over the next week. We have a lot of traveling and hosting plans this week and I wanted to make sure to wish you all the very best in the meantime.
I put together a short list for myself on how to rock it in the diabetes world this holiday weekend. I’m not sure why, but if I have a list it will get done. Is anyone else like this?
How to rock it in the T1D world this Holiday Weekend
- Pre Bolus at least 15min before eating – no exceptions! (unless you’re low of course)
- Carb Count accurately! – No food denial; which I am a huge offender of.
- Bolus for everything! The small stuff adds up fast.
- Stick to meals that you know the carb count for – low carb will have less room for error.
- Frequent BG checks.
- Walk around. Move.
If you’re in need of a low carb dish to bring to your Holiday party this weekend try my Paleo Avocado Brownies. They are seriously soooooo good!
I am trying my hand at making my Mom’s famous Cream Cheese Brownies this weekend, but a gluten-free, dairy-free, T1D friendly version – wish me luck! If it turns out great I will definitely share it with you all.
And most importantly, don’t forget to take care of yourself this Holiday season. T1D (and anyone with autoimmune diseases) are more prone to burn out. Follow my self love guide on how to beat a funk after the holidays.
I would love to know what your go-to dish is to bring to parties. Let me know in the comments below.
