Friday is here! How are you guys doing? We picked up our chickens on Wednesday and have spent most of our mornings and afternoons since then watching these wild girls run & play, and take spontaneous naps around the brooder.
We ended up bringing the brooder inside because the heat lamp couldn’t regulate the proper temperature outdoors.
This time around we’re staying away from GMO and soy layer feed. I plan on making our own feed, once the ladies get bigger, using this recipe I found. But because I don’t have a mill grinder to make the seeds/grain small enough for little baby mouths, we’re using a soy free, non-gmo feed for baby chicks.
I would also love to grow our own mealworms for the ladies! If you have ever tried this let me know! I hear it’s super easy to do.
For breakfast we had our usual, over easy eggs with sausage, toast, and chocolate PB smoothies.
Lunch was a random assortment of leftovers from the fridge and homemade french fries.
And dinner was Lasagna and it was DELICIOUS! This is the third time I’ve made lasagna where I replace the ricotta cheese with hummus – it sounds odd but its amazing!
My blood sugar yesterday was great! I am running a 40% basal increase for the next couple weeks because I am in the luteal phase of my cycle. If you’re like WTHeck are you talking about – read more about how ovulation & menstruation can effect your blood sugar HERE.
I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll talk to you next week!
