It seems like dry shampoos are all the rage right now and I totally understand why! We all know it’s not good to wash your hair everyday, but if you have fine baby hair like me then you know how greasy and flat it gets after just 24 hrs. That’s where dry shampoo comes in handy. However, here is the catch, most conventional dry shampoos are loaded with toxic chemicals and are usually on the pricey side. What’s a girl to do?
Open your cabinets and pull out the cornstarch, yes I said cornstarch.
I’ve found that the best way to apply this is with a makeup brush, but you can also sprinkle it on with your fingers, or pour it in an empty spice shaker and shake it on your hair. Now, if you have dark hair you will want to add cocoa powder to your mix otherwise it will look like you have grey hair, unless of course you’re going for that look.
The “before” picture above is after just 24 hours of shampooing; you can see how fast my hair becomes oily and flat. You should see it on day 3! Yikes!
This is also great for those times when you want to style your hair. Dirty hair holds better than clean hair, but it doesn’t have to look dirty anymore! Just use this DIY cornstarch dry shampoo recipe.
This can also be a great DIY Christmas gift! Just buy a nice mason jar, fill it with cornstarch, top it off with a ribbon, and maybe include a makeup brush for application. They will love it!
Try this recipe with whatever cornstarch you have in your cabinets, it doesn’t have to be organic if you are just trying it out. When you realize you LOVE it, which I’m confident you will, I would recommend buying organic cornstarch. Corn is the most heavily sprayed and GMO food in the USA . To be applying this directly to your scalp means all those nasty GMOs and pesticides are going directly into your bloodstream. When I run out of my box of HodgsonMills Cornstarch I will be buying the Let’s Do…Organic’s brand. Get it here.
This blog post wouldn’t be complete without a picture of my puppy. Here he is this morning during our workout. I say our workout because he follows me all around the house as I do lunges, he follows me up and down the stairs as I do stair work, and he sits patiently (mental exercise for him) as I do jumping jacks or jog in place. He is such a sweet boy.
He had his first day at a new day care yesterday and absolutely loved it! We got a little report card with his picture and the name of a new friend he made. They sure know the way to a puppy mother’s heart.
