I tested the Freestyle Libre 3 Plus EMF levels because these devices sit on our bodies 24/7, so I wanted real numbers, not guesses.

Freestyle Libre 3 Plus EMF Levels Tri-Field Meter

My CGM is basically my fingers’ superhero.

It saves my ten-digit-tenders from a dozen finger pokes a day, and the insight it gives me isn’t even in the same universe as finger sticks. Once you’ve used a CGM, you know, there’s no going back.

What could possibly go wrong, right?

Well, I started wondering....

Since these diabetes devices are communicating, electronically, 24/7, while sitting directly on our bodies, I couldn’t help but ask a bigger question:

What does that constant electronic chatter actually mean for our health?

Because EMFs aren’t nothing. They’re not imaginary. And they’re definitely not completely harmless.

Testing the Freestyle Libre 3 PLUS

That curiosity led me to test the Freestyle Libre 3 Plus EMF levels for myself.

I grabbed my trusty Trifield EMF meter and went to work...

  • I TESTED THE SENSOR while it was on my body.
  • I TESTED MY PHONE that receives the readings.
If you use a receiver instead of your phone, don’t worry, I tested that too.

But there was one test I was especially curious about...

  • I tested the Freestyle Libre 3 PLUS EMF levels when my phone was in AIRPLANE MODE. Meaning the sensor and the phone couldn’t communicate at all.

Why Test EMFs on a Disconnection?

Because a lot of us (myself included) assume that if we want to reduce EMF exposure, we can just “turn things off” at night. Sleep is when our bodies are repairing, detoxing, and most sensitive, so wouldn’t it make sense to disconnect the sensor overnight, then reconnect in the morning and let all the data upload?

No harm, no foul… right?

Wrong.

Like SO wrong.

What I found honestly surprised me. The setup I thought would be the worst actually wasn’t and the one I assumed was “safer” ended up giving me the highest Freestyle Libre 3 Plus EMF levels. It completely flipped how I think about using my CGM day to day.

This is why I didn't just test the devices, I tested scenarios.

It’s not just about knowing EMFs exist, it’s about understanding when exposure is highest and what’s actually causing it. Once you have that info, you can make small, intentional choices that feel right for you.

If you’re wearing a CGM on your body 24/7 (like most of us are), this stuff matters. Even small changes in how we use these devices can impact overall exposure.

I put all of this testing into a short video where I break down:

  • which setup gave me the highest EMF readings
  • which setup gave me the lowest EMF readings
  • and which assumptions I had that turned out to be completely wrong

Watch the video below to see the Freestyle Libre 3 Plus EMF levels for yourself.

If you’re curious about EMFs, CGMs, or just want to understand what’s happening with a device that literally lives on your body, this one’s worth watching.

I’m not really sure what you’re measuring and I certainly can’t make out any measurements on your phone on the video.
I understand you have a child, but the background noise is difficult. An intro about EMF, what it is, why it is dangerous, how you tested it, the
results and what they mean would be helpful. Are diabetes organisations doing anything about this? How about writing an article and sending it to the press? C Shannon

Thank you so much for this thoughtful feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your thoughts. This video was meant to be more of a quick “here’s what I found” overview, but you’re absolutely right that more explanation would be helpful.

This is incredibly interesting! I have been super hesitant about the smart pumps & cgms that talk to each other becuase of this – there are so many times where the devices lose connection….makes me wonder if the EMF exposure is worth it.

      i’ve thought the same thing

SHHHhheeeEEEesh! Well, i definitely don’t want to carry my phone with me everywhere. I’m always bouncing around my house, i’d literally have to have the thing in my pocket all day long, which i don’t want to do. I wonder if there are any non-smart CGMs we could use?

I agree! Putting on this CGM to do the testings has been such a pain. There is a non-smart one from Libre. It’s called “Libre 14-day wear sensor”, but I call it Libre 1. It’s my preferred sensor BY FAR.
