Have you ever started doing something because you were convinced it would help… and then when something weird happened, you didn’t even consider that the two things might be related?
Yeah. Hi. It’s me. 🙋♀️
That was my whole situation with my Omnipod.
Somewhere along the way, I started pinching up my skin before every pod insertion - you know, like you would do before an MDI injection.
I was putting pods in weird spots with not a ton of fat and thought,
“Ah yes. This is genius. This will help.”
Spoiler: it was not genius.
Around the same time, I noticed every single pod hurt...ALL...DAY...LONG...
But did I put two and two together?
Absolutely not.
I simply thought, “Clearly I’m not pinching enough! Let’s really grip that sucker next time!” 🤦♀️
Then one day, I didn’t pinch— not for any deep reason… I was probably holding a baby, a hot cocoa, a chicken, who knows — and suddenly the pain was gone.
Turns out the pinching was the entire problem.
Every time I pinched, the site ended up angry and inflamed. And honestly… angry sites = questionable insulin absorption. Not ideal.
So now?
I slap that baby on and let the pod do all the work.
My pinching hands are officially retired ✋
Here’s what I do now:
• make sure the area is totally relaxed (no flexing)
• no twisting (arms especially)
• no scrunching (for belly sites I stand, not sit)
• no pinching — ever again!
pinched, angry pod sites are THE WORST.
A close second?
