Welcome back to another Life as a T1D Blogger post. If you’re new here, welcome! Every Friday I share a little glimpse into my life as a T1D Blogger.
And this week is just a catch up week.
A week where I’m going to catch you up on what’s going on in my life. Right now. Not everything. But some things.
The first thing is the Omnipod 5.
I am currently on Omnipod’s EROS system. The first system. The OG. I love it so much. If I could stay on it, I would.
But they’re discontinuing it, so I must move on.
I just picked up this MASSIVE box. Which is extremely excessive considering the only things in it are the PDM, a charger, and a box of pods.
That’s the Omnipod 5 PDM on top for size reference.
But hey, it’s 2023, and we have to be fancy, right?
This shiny penny and a 30 day supply of pods cost me a whopping $364 (and that’s with insurance).
The starter kit (which has the PDM, charger, and 5 starter pods) was $182 after insurance. And the 30 day supply of pods (10 pods) was also $182, after insurance.
I still have 3-4 months left of my EROS pods before I make the switch. So, December-ish I’ll be using the Omnipod 5.
So expect a review of the system around January….ish. And I’ll be taking its EMF reading and adding it to the EMF’s of Diabetes Devices post HERE.
I also picked up these snack bags yesterday and have almost eaten both of them down to half. I don’t know what it is about crunchy/salty but I cannot get enough of it. And my blood sugar hates it because I always eat WAY more than I bolus for. Every time. You’d think I’d learn a little self control. But that’s why I can’t buy bags of chips. It’s a problem.
We’ve also been practicing letters because the kiddo has asked me to teach him how to read. So right now we’re working on the ABC song and being able to identify each letter in the alphabet.
We just started this game yesterday and it has been so much fun. I just wrote A, B, C, D a bunch of times on scrap paper and when we flip over a card we have to run and jump on the sidewalk chalk letter.
Once we master this we’ll move on to E, F, G, H.
I’ve just finished a book that was pretty disappointing, in the sense that I thought it would give me some good insight, maybe I’d learn something new, but it was just a reiteration of everything I knew. So in a way I guess it wasn’t a total disappointment, it was just more confirmation for me. But anyways, it’s time for a new book.
I can’t decide if I want to read up on homeschooling, finance, government corruption, or health.
💬 Let me know in the comments what types of books/podcasts you’re into lately? Could be a new hobby, a rabbit hole you’ve been going down, or life just taking you down a certain path. I want to know. Let me know!
I hope you have an awesome weekend and I’ll talk to you next week!
If you’re on my email list, sorry for the lack of emails the past couple weeks, I switched email platforms and it’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I have it figured out now. So if you’re on that list, talk to you Sunday. If you’re not on my email list, and want to be, send me an email at Rachel@T1DLiving.com or DM me on IG or FB and I’ll add you to the list.

My thoughts exactly on the sheer size of the OP5 box – whyyyyyy? My very clever husband turned it into a ‘treasure box’ for my daughter. We let her color it and put stickers on it and now it keeps her tiny toys from her baby brother!
I know you have done this on and off on the blog, but would love to see a post on diabetes trash and tips for finding out in your area what packaging can be recycled vs what is truly trash and the best way to deal with all the excess packaging!
Treasure box is genius! My son would love that! And that’s a great idea for a blog post! I’ll add it to the list for October! Thank you!
I save each heap of trash for the next release, then i do the honorable thing. I ship it back to the manufacturer with no note or return address. Sometimes I even put postage on it, but usually not. its my private joke, no one ever seems to complain, at least to me. LOL
your next book should be
Breakthrough: Elizabeth Hughes, The discovery of insulin and the making of Medical Mircale.
