Hey Hey! It’s Friday! I am SOOOoooOOO happy for the weekend to be here because it has been an incredibly stressful week at my 9-5 😮‍💨

I am SO HAPPY that this weekend ahead is FULL of family time plans, beautiful weather, and a bunch of new books I CANNOT WAIT to dive into (more on that in a minute)!

Few things fill up my cup more than those three things 👪☀️📚

Before we dive into this week’s High Five Friday post, if you missed my post from earlier this week (NEW DIABETES GEAR & ACCESSORIES FOR SUMMER 2023) then click the link and read it after this post.

I’m thinking I may need to buy some fun summer sticking power for my pump…I didn’t realize how loose the adhesive was coming on the bottom side until I uploaded this picture 😅

ALSO, one more note before we get started…. If you’re on the TANDEM INSULIN PUMP then check out Sugar Medical’s Tandem gear! They’re having a 20% OFF SALE on it all! You maaaaaaay be able to use my code T1DLIVING at checkout to save an additional 10% at checkout, but I have a feeling you can only use one or the other. But give it a shot! It may work? Code is: T1DLIVING.

OKAY! Let’s get into it!

High Five Friday #7

If you don’t know by now, I am a HUGE book lover. Right now I’m loving pretty much anything but fiction.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good fiction novel, but non-fiction is currently my JAM!

As a Mom, wife, chicken farmer, and lady with a 9-5 AND a side passion project (T1D LIVING), I can only read so many books in one day 🤪

So when our town posted their bi-annual library book sale I marked the date on our calendar and showed up 2 minutes before open with a couple of empty bags to fill.

These are some of my finds. I cannot vouch for any of them because I haven’t read them yet.

I will start diving into them once I get through my current stack, which is all about education and learning.

Since Miles is around Kindergarten age we’ve been thinking (and educating ourselves) about how kids learn, how kids fail, the origins of compulsory schooling, our options for schooling, how boys learn, the mind of boys, and more.

Books on Education

Three books that I’ve read so far on this subject and HIGHLY recommend are How Children Learn and How Children Fail by John Holt and Punished by Rewards by Alfie Kohn

I’ll let you know about the other four books in the picture above once I finish them!

(Not sure how to make this next transition so I’m just going to dive in because I’ve been staring at the screen for 10 minutes now and deleted 20 sentence attempts 😅)

Now that we’re out of May (which is the CRAZIEST month for bugs here – you cannot even be outside without a swarm of gnats dive-bombing into your eyes) we are FINALLY able to enjoy the outdoors.

I don’t know about you, but my favorite meals are meals eaten outside. And while our dinner last night wasn’t anything fancy, just leftover pulled pork, leftover teriyaki broccoli (with some leftover rice stuck to it), and nectarines. It was so satisfying 🤤

After eating we walked the driveway loop a few times (we have a very long driveway) and Miles rode his dirtbike.

Walking after every meal is a new habit I’m working on sticking to. It does wonders on blood sugar, I don’t need as much insulin, and it gives us such good quality time as a family. We always come back into the house belly laughing and in the best mood.

Well, that’s a wrap! I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll talk to you on Tuesday (or Sunday if you’re on the email list!)

Can I just say how much I love your menus at the end of each Friday post. Such an inspiration for my own meal planning. I always get so stumped on what to make, and I never thought to make snacks for the week either. Those frozen banana pops look fantastic.

I’m glad you’re liking them! I always love hearing/seeing what other people are making for dinner too.
