Why would you make your own taco seasoning?
Well, for ONE, you’ll save money.
TWO, you likely won’t be adding MSG or citric acid to your seasoning mix so your taco mix will be a lot healthier.
THREE, you can make it more or less spicy depending on how you like your food.
And FOUR, you can make it in a pinch with the spices you have in your pantry. No more last minute runs to the store!
What makes this Taco Seasoning healthy?
It’s all in the sourcing baby! Let me explain…
The health of this recipe isn’t really in the ingredient list, as much as it’s in the sourcing of the ingredients.
Because when you look at the list it’s all real food: dried herbs & spices.
That’s why ingredient sourcing plays a big role in how healthy you want to make this seasoning. Below is a breakdown of good, better, and best. Do the best you can, but don’t break your back over it.
Good: Regular, non-organic herbs & spices
Better: Organic herbs & spices
Best: Herbs & spice from your local farmers market (or your own garden!)
How to Make
The best part is how simple and fast this seasoning is to make.
- Combine all ingredients.
- And you’re done.
How to Store
Room Temp: Put taco seasoning in a jar with a lid and store for as long as you feel comfortable. I go through my taco mix pretty quickly after I make it. But honestly, I have some herbs & spices that have been in my pantry for over a year and I use them with no worry.
What to use Taco Seasoning On:
- Tacos
- Taco Nachos (this is when you use taco meat as a nacho topper)
- Chili Mac n Cheese
- Sauteed Veggies (instead of seasoning with salt & pepper, use taco seasoning)
- Tex-Mex Rice (add taco seasoning, onion, pepper, black beans, and corn to rice)
